Jill Russell

Vancouver flutist Jill Russell has a love for Brazilian music that spans three decades. That love was sparked while dancing in a Samba School in San Francisco and matured in the 90’s while touring western Canada with guitarist Celso Machado. A highlight was recording ‘Check the Beans’ with Brazilian greats Jovino Santos Neto, Claudio Sloan and Celso Machado in 1999. Jill went on to front ‘Corcovado’, a Vancouver group featuring arrangements for flute and vibraphone of classic bossa novas and chorinhos. Recent years have included several collaborations with Canadian singer songwriters and flamenco musicians. At present Jill enjoys playing in ‘Ciranda’, a seven piece forro and chorinho group, and performing with her husband, singer songwriter Brian Denhertog. It was a happy day a few months ago when Dado Sa invited Jill to come to Brazil
and record his latest songs.
